EU to update screening report for the energy chapter
As a result of the diplomatic shuttling between Ankara and Brussels, European Commission offered Ankara to update the screening report for the suspending energy chapter.
(Emre Ertürk – 20 Nov. 2015) Diplomatic shuttling between Ankara and Brussels has accelerated greatly as part of joint efforts to secure a solution to the growing refugee crisis. The opening of the energy chapter is also discussed during the negotiations and significant progress has been achieved for the procedures regarding the opening of the energy chapter. European Commission offered Ankara to jointly update the screening report for the energy chapter, which was blocked by Cyprus since 2006. European Commission will determine the opening of the energy chapter after finalizing the screening report. A Turkish official told Enerji IQ that the EC also sent the energy acquis and directives of the EU to Turkey to evaluate the conformity level of the local legislations.
Turkish and the EU officials plan to conclude on the current negations, which primarily focus on the refugee crises at the joint summit on November 29, following the approval of the new Turkish cabinet.
