In the Anadolu Agency’s news, it was also highlighted that the memorandum of understanding, which was signed during the visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Qatar, will bring a long-term perspective to the imports of LNG from this country, which was previously carried out with spot agreements.

The parties have begun preparations in order to establish the infrastructure of the principal agreement within this framework. It has been stated that the principal agreement, which will also include the amount and term of the LNG to be imported from Qatar, will be signed as soon as possible.

President Erdoğan responded as follows to a question from one journalist concerning the details of the agreement signed with Qatar in connection with LNG:

“In fact, Qatar have been endeavouring to enter into LNG investments since the past. At the moment, due to the known developments in Turkey, they are seeking to see ‘what steps can we take in LNG and can we enter into investments on the subject of LNG storage in Turkey’. We told them that we were looking positively upon this.”

President Erdoğan stated that both the private sector and the state had LNG storage plants, and that government to government investment or an investment in a different manner could be initiated.
